Surgery for a more high-pitched voice

The technique decreases the mass and the glottal tension

The objective of voice feminization is to pass, through surgery plus post- operative speech therapy, from a serious tone, perceived as stereotypically masculine, to a more acute tone, perceived as stereotypically feminine. The people who most request this technique are transgender women who want to soften and sharpen their voice, get a more acute vocal tone, or women who have a very serious voice or suffer a hormonal disorder due to androgen excess.

After having tried different surgical techniques, currently the treatment with the best results is Wendler’s Glotoplasty, with personal modifications. In this technique a union is made by means of two stitches in the anterior third of the vocal cords. In addition, the upper layer of both vocal cords is laser vaporized to decrease mass and glottic tension. Likewise, the sutures are secured with biological glue. You cannot speak until 15 days after the intervention. Vocal therapy after surgery is essential for voice recovery. The speech therapist will be vital at this stage, as it will help you change your vocal gesture, your resonance, your intonation and your voice modulation. In this way you will have a more lasting and less forced voice. Optimum results are achieved approximately three months after surgery.
